Crumple zones?

Crumple zones are just strategically placed failure points. The amount of energy from a car collision is massive compared to the impact of a sledgehammer.

It may be done with scoring the hardened plates, so they bend in certain situations. There may be softer steel under structures in the front and back. There might even be active response like airbags involved.

Hard to say now, but the basic answer is: If it's possible to fold the metal, it's possible to build in crumple zones.

A Cybertruck after such repairs would be an interesting sight, though. Harder to cover up the repairs!
