I have learned that lesson a few times over Jeff. When you suddenly get the "nudge" to reach out and make contact with an old friend, DO IT ASAP. Several times it has been the last time I got to see some old friends on this side of Heaven and glad I did.Sorry to hear this. I hope his passing was painless for him.. it is much harder on the family. 2020 can end any time. Just heard today one of my best friends, who was living in Denver, died a few days ago. So glad got to visit him in January on our way home from Utah.
When I was in the Guard and on mornings I had a flight I would always call my dad when suiting up, my dad lived with me and was also an Airdale (Navy -retired WWII & Korea) and let him know "Angles are flying today Dad" that was our code word to let him know I loved him (he had a history of a few heart attacks) and if either one of us did not make it to the dinner table that night we were square. As it would happen we got the call one day when returning from a Gulf of Mexico patrol to fly to and land at the civilian airport near my dad's house and then call "home plate" (air station) once on the ground with no further information. I was the only one on board that lived in the area so I knew this was not going to be good. We were square. As per pop's request, we had fireworks after the service, he had a sense of humor.
Sorry for your loss, hang on to the fun stuff you two shared, and teach the next generation what your dad taught you. Fair Winds And Following Seas and Semper Paratus friend.
