So sorry but I just cannot comprehend your concern. I've owned Lincolns and Fords with a key pad, I may have used it 2-3 times.
Do you carry a wallet for cash, credit cards, driver's license? How about a house key or a car key, or a key fob? Do you not have pockets in your pants? Do you wear pants?

When I go to the base gym, I don't like to carry my keys or wallet in. Those would have to sit in a sometimes sketchy locker room. I get his issue... Also, at work, we can't have anything with USB or bluetooth, or two-way radio (some remote starters), ... the list goes on. I can carry a basic key fob and that's fine. When I go swim, I only carry my ID card and some cash (if it's a park). Generally, that number pad on my truck got used almost every day. It's easy and quite nice to use. I fully get why it's a question about getting in the vehicle. I don't want to have to get my wallet out, dig out a card, hold it to the car, put it back in the wallet, put the wallet back in a pocket. It's much easier to just boop,boop,boop and you are in!

Hmm. Some places I know of which have your phone predicament provide “cubbies” for personal belongings at the entrance. I would either find a safe space near your work location (I just leave my stuff on the floor sometimes), or request your employer install something. I imagine you aren’t the only worker who would appreciate the addition. In my experience, the FSD cameras will also be an issue, but most employers should have some sort of camera exemption form which is meant for dash cams.

That may work for him but cell phones are not even allowed in the building where I work. So, my phone gets to stay in the truck all day. (How will my Tesla know to lock up?... hmm)

Easy to take a card, soak it in lacquer thinner and pull out the tag and antenna, then, you could sew it into a shirt, build it into your watch and, or maybe sew it into your shoelace?

Seems like a lot of work seeing as you get NFC tags for around a dollar each, or less than half of that if you buy like 50 or something. You can write to them using currently available android apps so as long as Tesla is accepting any unique identifier (pretty sure they are) you'll be able to turn anything into a key.

I'm highly considering implanting an NFC tag into my hand, which a piercing shop local to me will do for around $100.

Kudos for the timely remark. Key fobs from car companies are not cheap either. At least $200 especially if you have the dealer program the fob. We just spend $230 doing this exact thing yesterday. $150 for the fob, $80 for the dealer to program it.

How old before I should start worrying about my key pad? My parents Taurus SHO was about 20 years old and completed rusted out (lots of salt used in U.P. winters) but it's key pad still worked.
My truck is 7 yrs old; no problems.

An entertainer coach has 12 people living on it, in and out a hundred times a day, so it's not a direct comparison. The number can wear off a new pad in a couple years if that give you any indication.

Same here. Can't have the phone in the restricted area. Which puts my phone several hundred yards and a couple buildings away at best. So I just leave it in my truck all day in the parking lot.

You should carry an ID and a medical card when you run.

If anything I'd think it would be safer with the extra tough glass and exoskeleton than in any other vehicle. But I'd still keep things out of sight. Hopefully having a key fob in the car will not allow someone outside the car to unlock the vehicle.

I do it all the time with my other vehicles that have key fobs. Turn off the phone. don't leave things in sight that will tempt a thief. Take out the non electric valet key and tie it on a shoestring as a necklace, inside my wetsuit. I looked on a Tesla Forum and one of the solutions was to drill a hole through the keycard (they showed an X-ray for where the wires are to avoid).

BTW, I don't scuba because of broken eardrums but all the rest are fun things I've done over the years. Here's an old photo of me sailboarding at The Ponds in Palm Springs.

I will have to look for a solution that doesn’t involve taking the card with me in my wetsuit as I worry about bending or breaking it. In the past I have locked my FOB into a key box. Perhaps that would work for the Ford guy as well?
