Tesla Teases New Feature: Ticket Avoidance Mode

On April 1st, 2015, Tesla introduced Ticket Avoidance Mode for Model S owners.

"No more parking tickets for Model S owners. Today we’re introducing: ticket-avoidance-mode. Watch how it works."

In a short video, the company demonstrated how it works. The policeman, who saw that the Model S was parked in a prohibited place, issued a fine, but when he tried to put it under the wiper, the car sprayed it with a washer and then began to slowly drive away. Of course, it was an April Fool's joke—forecasting a sense of humor we have since come to expect in the company and CEO Elon Musk.




Despite the fact that it was a joke, today we are once again discussing Ticket Avoidance Mode. What gives?

In a recent video, which Tesla presented on its YouTube channel, the first seconds of the video have a text hidden from the eyes of inattentive people. Among the list of inscriptions that change at a very fast speed, you can see the very words that hint at Tesla's new Easter egg: Ticket Avoidance Mode.

At the moment, it remains unknown what exactly this feature will enable and whether it will be intended for driver assistance or just for fun. However, we look forward to hearing from anyone who found this feature and how to use it.

I don't know exactly what "Ticket Avoidance Mode" is but I suspect it involves the features that limit autopilot speed to some settable amount (could be 0) over the speed limit as the car generally knows what the local speed limit is from knowing where you are and/or reading speed limit signs (even translates km/h to mph if you are in Canada). All that other stuff on the list is available now.

The main reason I use google maps to go most places is because of the "speed traps"
It has probably prevented a ticket or 2.

With all the camera's it (a tesla) could easily tag a speed trap, accident, etc.

I am hoping eventually Teslas will have a much more up-to-date traffic flow, accident identification, road construction, and targeted traffic enforcement area than Google/Waze.

Yeah, if the cars themselves can report and confirm the incidents... Waymo's cars already do this (their micro mapping)

A better solution would be just to have it switch out the license plate number so that the ticket was not for your vehicle. Just make sure you don't have it re-use the same plate over time as that will eventually get a boot put on.

I saw a comment around somewhere about being able to have a license plate printed into a wrap. Perhaps it would be allowed to have the plate printed in a kindle screen that could be programmed to change as desired. No, no way that would be allowed.

I can see where Tesla AI could track a speeding “ Bird Dog” vehicle that passes it. That would put the Bird Dog in first position to hunt a ticket. Tesla AI could use fenced GEO Map tracking following it as a TAS enabled roadway.

Meta version is an AI traffic scanner tracking Tesla speeds that its TAS would add crosshatches to the map where it has detected slowing traffic patterns in posted zones.

IF Bird Dog is another Tesla its TAS ( Ticket avoidance system) is more effective.

How smart is AI? Can it save you a ticket? May be that Tesla are approaching a tipping point where enough information is emergent in the area of safety, behavior modulation and AI determination.

Add to that some human curating of data (small towns raise $$ with tickets so you have to go ZERO above the limit, but most other places with speed limits 35MPH or above, you can get away with at least 7 MPH over; and on some toll roads, you can usually do even better), and you should be able to do as well as a skilled, familiar, and alert human at avoiding tickets while still making pretty good time.
